How it works
Reduces the weight of an image by adjusting its compression quality, so it takes up less space and loads faster. It is useful for optimizing photos before uploading them to a website, sending them by email or attaching them to a form with a size limit.
You choose the output format (JPG, WebP, AVIF or PNG) and move the quality control to find the balance between sharpness and weight. The tool shows you the size before and after and the percentage of reduction achieved.
The processing is entirely local, in your browser: the image is not uploaded to any server. WebP and AVIF usually compress better than JPG at similar quality.
Use cases
- Lower the weight of photos to speed up a web page's loading.
- Shrink an image so it fits within a form or attachment size limit.
- Optimize screenshots before sharing or documenting them.
- Compare how much the same image weighs in JPG, WebP and AVIF.
Frequently asked questions
What quality should I choose?
For photos, a value between 70 and 85 usually reduces the weight considerably without visible differences. Lower the control while comparing the preview until you find the point where the quality is still acceptable to you.
Does compressing change the image's dimensions?
No. Compression reduces the file's weight while keeping the width and height in pixels. If you also want to change the dimensions, use the resize tool.
Why is the result sometimes heavier than the original?
If the original was already very optimized, or if you convert to a format that is less efficient for that content, recompression can increase the weight. In that case the reduction percentage appears negative and it is advisable to try another format or quality.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser; the image never leaves your device.
